Personal Umbrellas and Accident Forgiveness

02/12/2010

I came across an article on the Mass Division of Insurance website this week, which explains accident forgiveness. Since accident forgiveness is a favorite talking point of several auto carriers’ commcerials, I thought this might be helpful to our agents, especially if an insured has questions concerning that option.

It’s also good to note as a reminder, that any “accident forgiveness” on an auto policy is not necessarily “forgiven” when underwriting the insured’s umbrella – especially if the client is being placed with a standalone carrier like RLI.

As the DOI reminds us, the accident is NOT erased from the driving record, and therefore would still need to be disclosed on the umbrella carrier’s application.

The Number One Agency offers stand-alone personal umbrella protection with RLI Insurance. Program Manager, Colleen Lahna, is happy to talk about placing your client’s umbrella – clahna@massagent.com.
