Columbus Day Weekend

10/09/2009

Autumn is my favorite time of year, and we are in full swing here. The Harvest Moon is out, the neighbors planted their mums in the yard, and I snuck in a few piece of pumpkin bread.  I’ve been planning some traditional New England fun for the long Columbus Day weekend. We’ll be apple picking at Honey Pot Hill Orchard with friends and heading out for a stroll at Minuet Man National Park with my family.

Hopefully, you too, will have a chance to enjoy some of the best weather and scenery that Massachusetts has to offer. Here’s my short list of things to do just in case you’re short on ideas:

Get some nature in before the snow hits and visit one of the many National Parks in MA.

  1. Visit an Orchard and pick some fresh apples for a pie.
  2. The Topsfield Fair is open through Monday October 12th.
  3. Feeling adventurous? Head to Deerfield and try zip-lining. (on my to-do list…someday)
  4. Visit Newburyport for the Newburyport Fall Harvest Festival.
  5. Head south and celebrate the Cranberry Harvest at Edaville in Carver or in downtown Wareham.

How are you enjoying the long weekend? Add your own ideas in the comments.

In case you haven’t guessed, the MAIA Offices will be Closed Monday October 12th for the Colubus Day holiday.
